How is it possible to control health care costs (which the majority of Americans say they want) when 78 m. Baby Boomers are going to retire between 2012 and 2030? (Under the current Medicare entitlement these 78m will get mostly free, single payer, government provided health care at a much higher cost than the minimal <3% of income they have paid over their working lives.)
Or said more simply and generally, how is it possible to control health care costs if we are unwilling to talk about end of life treatment (the most expensive time period for health care) or rationing? How can more treatment to more old people cost less? I am obviously leaving out the 41m. people who do not have coverage, and may want it today.
Your answers should be cc'd to your U. S. Senators and Representatives and each other.
My answer is that if government provided health care is bad, then we should repeal Medicare after writing all working people a check for what they have paid in. If not, we should work to solve the health care problem for those Americans who want insurance but cannot afford it. All should pay something toward their own health care, preferably higher co-pays and deductibles so that there is more personal responsibility for what people say they want.
